Short story thing I originally wrote December 2016/January 2017, back when the whole concept behind this Alternate Earth thing I devised was still in its infancy. The MC of this story is a Frenchsar whose family migrated as part of an arrangement between France and Texas under the Franco-Texian Commercial and Colonization Company established in 1841 (which was an actual thing considered by both countries... until the French were dissuaded by their ambassador having his belongings being eaten and torn up by escaped pigs... yeah) who is called up as a Reservist to fight enemy incursions during a time of warfare in 1870s North America.
