Some old poetry of mine...

Masquerade
By: Mordenheim Xanthica-Li
All the world’s a stage and gods, what a play.
The things that we do and the things that we say.
This world was once beautiful, a place of sweet dreams,
But now it is tainted, things not what they seem.
Once-beautiful castles have crumbled to dust
Old rows of gilt armour now nothing but rust.
The people once happy, once joyous and gay
put on a good show but mean not what they say.
They hide their emotion, they lock it away.
They’ve caged all their hearts up to this very day
They wear masks of joy, false laughter they share
They don smiling faces to hide their despair.
This place seems pure fantasy, you let out a sigh.
Such poor saddened people whom can to themselves lie.
But this is no fantasy pulled from the air,
Just look all around and you’ll see that it’s there.
I see fear in your eyes and I hear your heart race
My words have just tugged at the mask on your face
Your false laugh relieves you, gods what a disgrace
This world is deceitful, the whole bloody place
Sweet songs once so common are rare anymore
The children today think the world is a bore
The magic is gone, it was torn from our hand.
It has taken our hope from this sorry, sad land.
And yet it remains, though hidden from view,
waiting for old ways to once more be the new
Yet it too must hide, it’s mask is so grand
For man will destroy what it can’t understand
And so I shall wait ‘till the truth is revealed
and every last mask is from every face peeled
You have heard my words, look once more at your face
Do you see your true self?
Or the mask in it’s place?
