Wow. That must have been impressive.
Being anywhere near a jet engine is also a bit hairy, as I'm sure you know.
Some folks I know built several pulse jets, such as this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f59s0x0UmQw, and a pulse jet go kart. You can see that near the beginning of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeNdH2ByfCM. (I was at this show, and many of their others here, and even saved a cool souvenir, a letter "A" from the neon sculpture, that I incorporated into a neon sign for my ex GF's kid, Annie.)

Yeah, pretty amazing what a simple and ingenious device they are. Never had an opportunity to ride it myself, but I suppose if I did I would, for the kicks. It never had any problems that I know of. Definitely hairy shit though. The way it gets glowing cherry red, and the noise it makes are more than a little scary. But that sort of stuff's always been SRL's specialty.
And as far as props, I can relate to that.

*laughs... and even further back, (and I can't remember the names) an inventor actually put a jet engine in an airplane and while tinkering with it, the plane left the ground and he panicked, crashing. He walked away from it afterwards.

Interesting.
Funny that some are claiming it as the first jet. Maybe sort of, especially considering it doesn't really sound as if it flew.
The Wiki on pulse jets show some patents preceding that, including a steam pulsejet (!) from 1867. But hey, none of those were on planes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulsejet
