150 watchers: 013-015 Beedrill line
I’m doing the 150 pokémon for my first 150 FA watchers. Today we’re doing the Beedrill Line. Yes, Beedrill. Beedrill appeared in magazines long before Weedle so the line gets named after it.
CyrusWolfie
I’m not sure about Cyrus’ placement in the order. I know someone got in before Koichi and he was just the oldest unaccounted-for watcher on my lists.
Cyrus was another “organic” watcher (someone I didn’t ask to follow me) and is quite cool. He has multiple outfits (had them even back then) but his favorite and coolest is by far the trenchcoat.
I know this may feel a bit like a repeat of yesterday’s, but that trench coat was just too cool to do anything else.
I may have finally learned how to draw segmented insects. Two things were hard about this one: first, I changed my mind halfway through on whether I wanted sleeves or not; I ended up deciding that without sleeves, it would just be a cape so I fitted in some after the fact. Second, how do I show that the trechcoat drags along the ground when your body is bent in half like Weedle’s is? Trenchcoat cloth is a very tough material so too much dragging would make it seem like not a trenchcoat!
Koichi18
Koichi was the last follower from GenesisW ’s chat (yes, that’s where I “broke the news” and where most of my watchers up to this point have come from). Koichi was hard to place in the order because he unfollowed and refollowed me several times, but I’m fairly certain this is when he originally followed me … which feels weird to say because, for twitter, the list, as it was, at the time of reaching 150, is what counts, so maybe I should’ve actually put Koichi when he last watched?
I’m putting him here, really, because when I did my first list assigning Pokémon, I assigned Koichi Kakuna. That’s how I can be so “fairly certain” this is when he watched. Why think this early about reaching 150 followers? I had 14 after my first month, I imagined I was going to be reaching 150 before the end of the year! I wanted to be ready!
(Not that I would’ve been able to do anything, 2012 was a very busy year for me)
I tried to show Koichi “[Scurrying back] to a Pokémon Center, protecting the exhausted and fainted Pokémon from further harm”. I played the sad anime music the whole time
This is probably my first time trying “mood shading”, or as I like to call it, “cop-out shading”. I think it went rather well. Still need more practice with running, though
MarcoFennec
MarcoFennec is the first I have a watch timestamp for: Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 5:56 p.m.
Ironically, he is also the last for a while. Organic follower growth all-but stopped for a while (and by “a while” I mean about a month, it just felt like a long time)
MarcoFennec is a very feral fennec, so I've no doubt his interactions with Beedrill would be largely things like this
Yip! *snap* Yip! *snap*
I've always thought Beedrill was handed the short end of the stick due to their portrayal in episode 4 of the anime. Beedrill is actually a really cool Pokémon with a lot of expressive power
Putting to the test my skills with motion blur, action poses, and anime sweat in this one
As with the twitter sketches, if you want yours colored, or if you want me to edit you in to somebody else's, I'll happily do it for $5 (not counting shading)
