Well, as it applies to biology, taxonomy is the classification of animals into species. So, the taxonomy of a human would be Homo sapiens, that of a fox would be Vulpes vulpes, and a normal short-beaked echidna is Tachyglossus aculeatus. "Metacarpophalanx" is an invneted word referring to bones in the hand, between which you find the knuckles. See how it works?
