Cress had never been so far north before. Not even the mountains were familiar anymore, he knew no one in this domain, and no one knew him.
In other words, it was perfect.
Soon enough he met a lone wolf, a pretty and flirtatious thing. But even as she smiled and nuzzled his fur, she murmured into his ear:
"Careful, love. There's danger afoot. I'd seek a pack, if I were you."
They sheltered together in a shallow den that night, and Cress rose early, intending to leave before his companion woke-
