It wasn't much really, just a small gift between each of them. In part, because, as it turned out, getting merchandise for their favourites had turned out to be kind of hard.
Jasper and Alfie both did enjoy Undertale and Deltarune quite a bit, an appreciation deepened by the fact they had found their favourite characters - King and Asgore respectively - made something of a cute couple together, in their opinion. Two fathers, estranged from their sons, both sympathetic but also with tinges of darkness to them (in different ratios, to be fair), generally plump body type...they seemed like they'd work together. The two often seemed to view them as a mirror to their own relationship, in a certain way. Jasper in particular had taken to calling Alfie 'pumpkin' as a pet name, after King's own affectation.
However, it seemed that the general public did not quite share the same affection for the two dads. Official merch was thin on the ground for both of them - group shot posters and pin sets seemed to be the only representation either member of royalty got. It was a bit disappointing.
Regardless, for their anniversary, Jasper and Alfie had decided to get each other some kind of gift relating to the game. After a bit of searching online, they eventually managed to find some custom plushies, made to evoke the style of the official ones. The King plushie was essentially a plumper, taller Lancer, without the tongue but with a cape, while the Asgore plush seemed to have been converted from a Toriel plushie. There was a certain feeling of cheapness to it, but the shipping costs were decent, and for the two boyfriends, the sentiment enough seemed worth it to them.
The plushies ended up arriving a day or two after the actual day, which was somewhat disappointing. Better late than never though, Jasper reminded them both as they unwrapped the bubble wrap packaging.
"You're right about that." Alfie chuckled, his light brown hair shining in the late afternoon sun coming in from the window. They were sat on the sofa, pulling the box open and untangling the mess of bubble wrap and tape. Alfie pulled the Asgore plushie free, and gave it a small hug. "Oh - smells like cinnamon."
"Really?" Jasper asked, leaning over to sniff the stuffed facsimile of the goat dad. So it did, a soft scent of cinnamon wafting from the threads. "I wonder how they did that. It's a bit more quality than I was expecting from what we paid for."
"Yeah. I wonder if King smells of anything." Alfie said. "Get him out already, Jasp."
"Oh, yeah, hold on..." Jasper leant over the box, his long hair falling forward and getting in his face a bit as he got the King plushie out. He brought the plushie to his nose, and sniffed. "Pumpkin scented." He smiled at Alfie.
"Aww." Alfie smiled back. "Hey, looook..." He placed the Asgore plush on the table, and began waddling it forwards, like a child playing with it.
Jasper laughed lightly, setting the King plush on the table and mimicing Alfie, walking the two plushes closer together, until they were right next to each other. They leaned the two plushes towards each other, the grinning mouth of the King drifting closer to Asgore's snout...until they touched...
And as the plushies touched, a jolt went through the two men. They both jerked back, the plushies falling atop each other as they fell back onto the sofa. Slightly dazed, they looked at each other.
"Did you feel that?" They both asked at the same time - then laughed.
"What was that?" Alfie asked, tugging at the collar of his black jacket.
"Some kind of static charge?" Jasper suggested. "Can that happen with packaging...?" He smoothed down his own turquoise hoodie. "That was pretty weird..."
"I guess it has to be." Alfie replied, and sat up to reach out for the plushie he'd been holding. "Or it'd sound like the start of one of your..." he trailed off, pausing. He was staring at his hand.
"Like the start of what?"
"Um, like..." Alfie paused, and turned his hand so Jasper could see the back of it. "Like one of your stories." On the back of his hand was white fur - hard to see in the light at first, but visible enough.
"What the heck...?" Jasper leaned over to Alfie, reaching out to grab the hand and take a closer look at it - but his own reach was paused, when he saw the royal blue that was spreading across his own hand, like an invisible painter painting his skin. "Wh--!"
"Oh jeez, it's happening." Alfie felt himself panicking, as the fur was spreading down underneath the sleeve of his jacket. There was a cracking sensation in both his hands, as they grew in size, inflating, the nails extending outwards into sharp looking claws, offset by the fluffiness that covered hands that were now looking more like paws.
"C...calm down. We're...we'll be okay." Jasper himself felt the same strange clicking sensation, as his hands also seemed to balloon in size, looking a lot larger - almost comically large. With the colour his skin was turning, it looked like he'd put on big blue Hulk hands. The sleeves of his hoodie were stretching, the threads snapping apart. He resumed his reach, taking up Alfie's fluffy hand and holding tightly onto it. "Just relax. Let's...let's ease into it, and it won't be so scary."
"Yeah, you're right." Alfie took a deep breath - a breath that resulted in his chest barrelling outwards, as fur grew along his arms, making them thicken with muscle. His own jacket sleeves were bursting apart, revealing the fluffy fur that was growing out of his skin - although curiously, despite the size of his shoulders, which could have practically doubled, the shirt seemed to be holding on around that part of his body. "I-It's hard to be calm th-through this though..."
"I'm here..." Jasper pulled himself closer to Alfie - as close as he could anyway, with how his own arms were bursting through the hoodie, heavy and thick, turning a pale white. All his clothing was tearing apart, his hoodie shredding open to reveal a swelling stomach that was turning an obsidian black. It might've looked like it was rotting, if they didn't know better, but they did - and the way his belly button seemed to be extending horizontally, growing a blue line around it made it clear to anyone what was really happening. "Hold onto me. We'll be alright."
As Jasper put his arms around Alfie, it was like a scene out of a Disney movie, as there was flow of colour racing down Alfie's body. First his hair grew brighter in the light, a sunburst of blonde that flowed, like an egg being cracked atop his head, down the length of his hair, the band that held it in a ponytail snapping to let it free. White fur pushed out of a face that was growing and warping, his lower jaw and nose pushing out into a soft, caprine muzzle, the jawline softened by a yellow beard that formed out of his sideburns.
His jacket was overtaken by a crash of hot pink, flowing down as the material became light and breezy, a flower pattern blossoming over it. His chest and stomach were surging outwards, pulling the new shirt a bit more tightly over his growing back, but despite being made of a more fragile thread, it didn't break over his changing body. His legs were thickening with fat and muscle, growing into hefty pillars that somehow his jeans managed to hold onto, while fluffy feet shredded his trainers in a matter of seconds. Alfie breathed in deep again, his chest seeming to grow with every breath, pushing out into firm pecs.
Jasper didn't seem to have nearly the same luck with his clothing. His body was just tearing and ripping everything apart. Nothing was safe - his pants exploded apart over similarly thick legs that were turning the same pure white as his legs, and his hoodie was completely torn apart by his burgeoning torso, only thin shreds of the collar holding on around his thickening neck. His hair was shedding all over the couch, the scalp beneath becoming the same soft blue that painted his hands. For Jasper's part, he couldn't help but smile through the experience - and as he did so, his teeth grew sharp, like a shark's, grinding down to fearsome looking points that made his smile look unnerving.
Perhaps more unnerving were the teeth that were appearing in the hole in his stomach - in contrast, blunt and straight, more like human teeth, but definitely not where they should be. Jasper wasn't wholly concerned by it. He lent further into Alfie, bending slightly, and his posterior took the opportunity to get rounder and plumper. His hoodie was nothing but a scrap of fabric at this point, but it seemed to be reforming itself, turning an obsidian black as it flowed further down, forming into a cape with a high collar. The last of his hair fell from his head, revealing a white crown atop an unusually shaped, blue head. The shadows around his eyes seemed to darken, getting heavier - in fact, it was spreading, all over his face, the area around his eyes becoming black and empty, his eyes disappearing into them, until the only symbol of vision was a spade shaped dark mark where the eyes should've been.
Despite his sinister looking form, however, Jasper didn't feel particularly villainous or evil. If anything, he felt happy and warm, comfortable. He kept cuddling Alfie, even though there wasn't really much need to - the changes seemed to have finished, on himself and his boyfriend. Speaking of Alfie, he still had his eyes closed, breathing deep. One might almost think he was asleep.
"You can open your eyes, pumpkin." King's rumbling, slightly growly voice spoke in his floppy white ear. Alfie's eyes snapped open with surprise - one blue, one orange - and he saw King's hefty arms curling around his burly stomach - his burly, fluffy, round stomach.
"Golly, it's...really happened." Alfie spoke, hearing his own voice, a deep timbre that seemed to exude warmth from the smallest words. "I'm Asgore?"
"And I'm your King." King replied, nuzzling Asgore's cheek.
"I suppose this is what we get for buying custom, right?" Asgore chuckled.
"Worth the price, I think." King took Asgore's cheek in his hand, turning Asgore's head to face him, and kissed him on the lips, as they'd done with the plushies a few minutes earlier. This time, though, it felt a lot more passionate, a lot more real. They both felt their newfound weight, their bodies heavy with love. King stroked Asgore's stomach, Asgore slid his hand along King's arms, feeling the heft. A grey tongue with a spade shaped tip slipped from between the teeth of King's bellymouth, snaking around Asgore's fluffy buns and pulling him in close.
"King...!" Asgore breathed, breaking the kiss for a moment. "B-Being a bit forward, aren't we?"
"If not now, when?" King smirked, his sharp teeth giving him a certain debonair charm. "We might wake up to find it over. I want to take the chance now."
"Alright then, honey." Asgore replied, stroking King's cheek. "Then...let's make it happen."
King reached up to the collar of Asgore's shirt, one clawed finger outstretched, sharp, even through the gloves. He slid it down the front of the shirt, the buttons popping apart, revealing a soft but firm chest, and a round, plump belly. King leant down to plant a few kisses on the exposed stomach, which Asgore giggled at.
In return, Asgore reached up to the knot that kept the cape around King's neck and unlatched it, letting it fall off of him, onto the floor. King fell atop him, and the couch creaked loudly under their collective weight. They stopped, hearing the sound.
"Perhaps we should do this on something more...durable." King suggested.
"That sounds...yes, let's do that." Asgore nodded.
King slowly pushed himself off of the couch, and held out a hand to Asgore, helping to pull him to his feet. They stood there for a moment, holding each other.
"Happy anniversary, pumpkin." King said.
"Happy anniversary, honey." Asgore replied, and kissed his man once more.
