So I was looking back through the QC archives, and ran across this page. Since Toni's mother does buy a lot of clothes for her "princess", and since she does call Toni "Princess" half the time, it seemed like something she would buy.

Toni's more embarrassed by the fact that her mother is doing her best to spoil her, and tries to dissuade her at any chance, than by the actual clothes she picks up. Usually it's a lot like Marten's mother in QC, though delivered in person rather than by mail; "I saw this and it reminded me of you, here!"

The problem with glass slippers, in general, is that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out if you just manage to cram your foot in there, you're set for life. (Of course, if Toni wanted to be a mooch, Rita has a good enough job that Toni could be set for life, too, so I guess that confirms your slipper theory somewhat?)
