This is my very first schematic of a Helicopter --- and it's a doozie!
This was the McDonnel Douglas/Bell submission to the LHX ("Light Helicopter eXperimental") project in the 1980s, whose objective was to provide the US Army with a highly advanced Reconnaissance Helicopter. The only real competitor was the Boeing/Sikorsky submission which ended up winning the competition. The latter submission was ultimately selected as the winner, and built as the RAH-66 Comanche... though didn't quite turn out the way it was planned to in the end.
(Also, Bell later joined-up with the Comanche project and got a big cut of the profits. McDonnel Douglas --- who did more than 70% of the work on the McDonnel Douglas/Bell LHX --- was left twisting in the wind by their "partner")
The McDonnel Douglas LHX was unquestionably the more advanced of the two, boasting rigid composite rotors, NOTAR, the lowest RCS of the two, and wings that allowed for high payloads and effortless high-speed flight. It was also the most handsome design submitted to the competition. XD
Remember these things the nest time someone implies that the US military ALWAYS buys the best equipment.
The LHX even had a starring role in an Electronic Arts combat flight sim, "LHX Attack Chopper", which was released on DOS, the Amiga, and the SEGA Megadrive/Genesis;

I highly reccomend this game to anyone who likes to play flight sims, BTW.
Here's the specs of the LHX. Bear in mind that since none were ever actually built, many of these figures are my own estimates;

"Your helicopter has relatively light damage, and should take about 3 weeks to repair at a cost of around $2.5 Million."
ROFL!
And then there's the "to do list" in the map screen;
"Today's tasks:
1- Get promoted
2- Recieve Medal of Honor
3- Increase life insurance."
ROFLCOPTER!

Niiice.
The game sounds pretty neat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6hNeidtXvc is a bit longer, I think.
Had it come out in 91 or 92, I bet they'd have ported it for Macintosh given its similarities to the Genesis and Amiga in terms of architecture (like, say, Spectre.) Unfortunately, the inexpensive color Mac that shipped in October '90 was a bit...of a second-class rig. (Then again, it was half as expensive as the IIcx...)

I looked around for a Mac version, but there doesn't seem to be one (unless you count playing the DOS version in an emulator on a Mac).
I highly recommend the SEGA Genesis version though --- the graphics, sound, and music are WAY better than the DOS version. If you don't have one already (shame on you!), you can get a Genesis cheap on Amazon;

...and the game is even cheaper! You can buy the cartridge alone for as little as $0.01 (I shit you not --- see for yourself), but the box and manual are DEFINITELY worth the extra money;
