As for space games to play, sadly there aren't many good ones around anymore, or at least I don't know many new ones.
The only one I hear people play nowadays seems to be Elite Dangerous.
Kind of has a Starship Troopers vibe to my eye. I am loving this space kick you are on. Ever play Wing Commander?

Descent Freespace was a huge favorite in my youth, also loved the Descent games as well.
God, i really need to play these games again.
One of the best space fighter games I've ever played. Reminds me of the technical wins of the old Wing Commander but MUCH MUCH MUCH faster paced like an arcade game. Check it out!
