A song that I wrote in a day, and I'm quite happy with.
Still playing with effects in Cubase. Found a nice spectrum-analyzer/paragraphic EQ VST plugin that works amazing.
Also new to me is the fact that I layered 4 separately-recorded guitar tracks, 2 per channel. I like the grand, heavy feeling it gives.
Tell me what you think. =)
As always, all parts written, performed and produced by yours truly.
EDIT 11-29-2010
--Increased bass-guitar mix level
--Increased high-frequency levels on bass-guitar track
--Adjusted kick-drum frequencies to give it a more "meaty" sound
--Increased kick-drum mix level
EDIT 11-30-2010
--Further adjusted kick-drum frequencies for heavier feel
--Lowered high-frequency waves and raised middle/middle-low frequencies of stereo-mix
--Adjusted compression of low, low-mid and hi-mid sections on stereo-mix
--Added small amount of plate reverb on stereo-mix
--Overall tried to raise bass levels and cut-down high-mid levels to bring out the body of the mix and reduce the tinny high-end which was hurting my ears while listening in the car x.=.x
EDIT 12-1-2010
--Took a snapshot of the spectrum analyzer in another song that was professionally produced and used that to adjust the frequencies of the final mix to match
--Added compression and EQ settings to each of the 4 guitar-tracks
--Even further tweaked the EQ and compression settings of the kick-drum
--Added reverb to the snare track

Firstly....I demand to know of this VST D:! I need a good spectrum analyzer, also the parametric EQ im using can only narrow the band so much....Like Q=1....So my midrange is always muddled because I cant cut through the mix at the specific points I want for certain instruments.
Also, The only thing that actually caught my attention was your kick, it sounds really artificial and lacks any real girth, too much click -in my opinion-. If you got a meatier kick it would add alot to the track, to the feel and to the authenticity.
Im jelly of your overall drum writing skills though, loved the harmonics at the start too. I think I might toy around with tracking 4 guitars when I get my pod back because it sounds great here. :3

Dude, if you add me on MSN or AIM, I can send you the torrent I used. The VST is called iZotope Ozone 4. If you can grab it, you will be glad you did. It's fantastic. =)
And yes, my kick has been something I've been working on quite a bit. It's hard to find the right balance. You go too high-freq and it gets clicky, like you said; but you add too much low-freq and it starts to muffle all of the guitar if you're not careful, especially when using compression on the final mix. Also might have to do with the fact that my kick-drum isn't the large-diameter that I want it to be. =(
And of my drum sk1llz: I've been playing drums for over 10 years, bud. =P Even still, that whole song wasn't done in one take, let me tell ya. XD I probably spent a good 2 hours from start to finish, to record the drum track.
Either way, I'm glad you liked it. I always love getting input from other musicians. <3

Yeah I know jack shit about actual drums and micing....I didn't know they were actually real drums XD, I Just assumed you had your shit together and used a computer and sampled it like 99% of drums on this site. They do sound great though and the fact that you're actually playing them makes it 100 times better.
Jelly of drums...and I know...I can't remember the last time I ever tracked something in one go.
Also go ahead and add "The_ferahgo_effect@hotmail.co.uk".... o:

My style of music is more for people who draw pictures in their head to the tunes they are listening to. It's very graphical music in that sense. If you don't have the "tuned ear" for artistic music, you won't feel the feelings that I write into my songs. I'm not saying you're musically dumb; I'm saying that not everyone listens to music for the same reasons.
If you were to practice listening for the visual in this song, you would draw the sense of disconnectedness and chaos in the beginning 40 sec, then allowing for the frantic feeling to fade as you gather your bearings before it bumps into the 4/4 groove. The whole song itself is like a preparation for something important, something unwanted and disliked, yet must be done.
You need to be able to see past the fact that it's a bunch of heavy-distorted guitar and thick drums. The cacophony of sounds is deliberate; not just because I enjoy heavy metal music.

Like I said it was more my thing around 2 minutes, and after 40 i did like it. I also draw the sequences of songs in my head, this just isn't the kind of music I enjoy, I think you can generate those same series of events with softer music, its kind of an eye of the beholder thing. I was just throwin in my 2 cents man
Your right, its not an issue of preference, I don't generally like musicals, but I give "The Sound Of Music" its credit, I didn't say it was bad, but I may have said more than I should, or at least worded it wrong, so I'll just stop before I dig myself into an even worse hole.
Not bad, hope to see more music, and I do enjoy your stuff, and sorry for sounding pretentious, not sure what was going through my head when I said it that way.

Awesome awesome! It's cool to hear you trying new methods in your approach to the recording. I really like the chaos and unsettling dissonance of the first 40 seconds, and you're definitely flexing more down-tuned muscles for the rest of the track. The guitars sound nasty mean. Awesome work dude, keep 'em coming!
I knew you were capable of something like this for a long time. And I was well aware that when I'd have contact with it, it'd blow my brains out. XD I never thought death metal-ish music would be good at portraying tension, being more of a full out explosion, but about one minute something in up to 2 minutes, there's something about that loop that seems to resonate anxiety in my mind, much like sudden footsteps in the dark would. I really think you've captured a vibe of the brain there. XD
