Damn yo, my buddy Sal just drew Jay, the first character I ever created! That was back in, say, 1990? He’s a bail bondsman who will hunt down fugitives for $ and chicken meat. X)

In recent years I came to terms with the fact that I enjoy my written stories about him more than most of what I wrote in my creative writing program. Somehow I stumbled onto the fact that when combining Looney Tunes shenanigans with Quentin Tarantino-style storytelling, magic and general bad-assery happens. You’ll win the favor of people who normally don’t read fiction, you’ll have more fun through your craft, you’ll get more out of old movies and books, and people from furries to old grandmas will buy you drinks.

There are times I wish I had put more stock in art than in writing. But knowing past-Mike, he would have gotten suckered into trying to make his superheroes more super than those of the other kids at Joe Kubert art school.
