Almost no one gets this right. :P
Teal is the spine, pink is the flesh, black is the fur.
ALL Elfane tails are thick at the base. Very thick. THE TAIL IS ALWAYS SOLID BLACK EXCEPT FOR THE TIP. The tail tip is the color of their element. There are no markings at all on the tail.
Upper left: Average Elfane tail. Long, floofy. As you can see, the fur is very long, extending from the flesh for many inches. Earth, Lighting, Plant(put G for Grass, lol, Pokemon on the brain) and Neutral.
Upper right: Water Elfane tail. It's like a shaved Elfane tail, only there is some fur there. Just not much. Like a lion's fur. lt's there, but not omfgfloofy like people usually draw fur. It's got an otter shape. Thick base, tapered thin tip. It's not a cat tail. D:
Lower left: This is like the average Elfane tail, only more floof. These guys are super freaking floof. You could get lost in their tail. Strands are very very long. Fire, Ice, Eclipse and Divine.
Lower right: Air Elfane tail(Accidentally put "Fl" for flying in stead of Air. Again, lol, Pokemon on the brain D: ). Exactly like the water Elfane, only with very long strands on the tip. Thin, long, and flowing. Not floofy or bulky at all.
The fur on the tail reflects the fur you'll find on the rest of the body. Example, the lower left tail is very floofy, so there's lots of fur on the legs, toes, butt, etc. Air Elfane have long thing strands of fur on their calves, rather than super floofy.
Here's some in color: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3488503/ (This is outdated, but most of the tails still apply, especially the air elfane)
