In the beginning, when there wasn't much known of the rix's presence, they were believed to be mindless beasts with traits akin to wolves or other reptilians. Some, even, speculated that they originated in swampy regions due to their gross, sticky secretions and blandish coloring... However, these rumors, albeit never confirmed, were long forgotten when people interacted with these beasts or saw the way they handled themselves. They weren't as mindless as believed, with specimens like the duly named frog rix becoming highly-feared in civilization due to their sticky, tight grips, their leash-like tongues and their flexibility in movement. Even without eyes, a specimen like the frog has been observed to not have issues navigating the land or hunting food, leading to even more speculation that they 'feel' the environment around themselves and use that data to maintain themselves, even outside of a hive fragment... And, of course, fears arose that they, without a warning like the commoner rix, could sneak into remaining outposts because of their biology.
