Cockroach Mutation

I have no idea what's going on with this roach. It's an e. posticus nymph, with some kind of bubbly formations on its pronotum and wing segments. Keeping this one under surveillance til it molts to adulthood, I'm curious to see what happens XD

Just random shot in the dark here.

Chances that they are some kind of cysts (sp)
I would think not since they're symmetrical but...
Exoskeletal hardening or weakening I wonder?

I dunno. It's more symmetrical and uniform than I'd expect from a disease, while a little tweak in a nucleotide or two could cause exactly that kind of regular anomaly.

Oooh. Maybe it's a mutation! You could artificially induce speciation if it persists into adulthood and you encourage breeding with this one and offspring.

are they hard or soft to the touch? i'm just wondering, since it looks less like a mutation and more like the shell is blistering or something... except for the symmetricality..

i dunno. i'm not really a bug expert... but part of me hopes i'ts a mutant cause if it's like, a bumpy cute roachy that would be adorable. I'd want to make a character based on him XD

Those look like fluid filled blisters or cysts. This would be a very bad thing, if it molts it could die. If its cysts and it breeds the young may develop the same problem. And if it is a mutation it is a harmful one. I'll pray for the poor buggy.

Where'd you get this information? It sounds accurate enough, thankfully this is the only one I've noticed with this problem... I'd cry if I lost all my orange head roaches, they're one of my favorites and I have hundreds now :3

I've seen photos like this on hisser molting problems. It should go away with the next molt, or if there is something really wrong with the roach, get worse (I know.. helpful c.c). I'm not sure what caused it, though. I doubt it will affect any of the others.
