The Blood Pack
On a sunny Saturday morning, Chris came to pick me up at my house so we can go camping together that we had planned for months. I’ve been looking forward to this ever since we planned it, and I could also tell Chris is excited to, he couldn’t stop talking about it. We made our way to the camp site in his truck and I was taking in the sites of the forest and the mountains. I love going to the mountains, I said while looking out my side of the truck. It’s just so peaceful, yeah replied Chris, every time I come out here the wild beast inside me just comes out. As he was saying this there was a low deep growl coming from his chest, I can see that, I chuckled.
We finally made it to the camping ground, and we grabbed of stuff from the back of the truck. As we were I looked up and saw some dark clouds forming, hey Chris, yeah bud, Chris replied. Did the news or your weather app on your phone said anything about it raining today? Chris then took out his phone while looking up at the dark clouds and looked up the weather, it says here that it’s suppose to shower, said Chris. But, hopefully it won’t be a down poor, I hope not, I said with a little worry. Then with our luck it’s starts to poor down as we were making our way up to the mountains. But luckily, we were able to find a cave and quickly take shelter before it started.
Chris and I sat in the cave and waited for the rain to stop. But, one question has been sitting in the back of my head for a while, are you sure their aren’t any bears in here, I asked? Don’t worry, I checked before we came in here we’re fine, Chris said reassuring. I then sat back against the rocks of the caves and looked out into the rain being mesmerized by the sound of the rain hitting against the rocks outside the caves and the rhythmic echos within the cave. Penny for your thoughts bud, said Chris, what, I said looking up to Chris. You looked like you’re in deep of thought, something on your mind?
I looked back out into the rain and tried to think of the words I want to say. Well Chris, it’s just that, ever since we first met I liked you from the beginning. You treated me differently then most people have, I text you literally everyday and you always answer my replies, even if you’re busy at the cafe you’re always making the time for me. Even times we go out and grab a bit to eat you always offer paying for the food, even if I was the one to invite you. I also remembered the one time where I was short on money and I didn’t have enough to pay my electric, I thought they were going to turn my power off, until you came over and gave me the money to pay it.
No one has ever done that for me before, Chris the rubbed the back of his head and…… wait……. is he blushing!? Well, my parents have always taught me to always help others and do good for others when you can, then Chris paused and looked out into the rain himself. Plus, I like you too Ricky, now it’s my turn to blush, thank God I’m I’m black because my face would be red as a tomato right now. Then we both just sat in silence for a while and just listened to the rain drops. Suddenly, hey I had an idea for a long while now and I was wandering if you might want to do this here and now, if you’re up for it that is.
Do what, I asked, well I know you said you don’t ever want to be married or want to date anyone and I’m in the same boat too, but my mom told me an old tradition with a beast man and a human can be together and not have any ties like marriage. What’s that, I asked in curiosity. It’s called “the beast lore pack,” basically it’s a blood pack between a human and a beast man where we both take a blood oath to be each other’s protectors and partners til the end of our lives. It’s kind of like a marriage except we don’t kiss and there’s no honeymoon, Chris then laughed.
So do you want to do it, asked Chris with eagerness in his eyes. I thought for a good minute, I do like to have someone to talk to a be with without that whole romantic crap and marriage ties, and if I were to choose it would be him. Ok, let’s do it, after I said that Chris’s ears raised up in excitement of my answer. So, what do we do I asked, Chris then took his index finger, and poked his thumb pad with his claws and I saw a little bit of blood coming out. Here give me your hand, at first I was hesitant, then I decided to give him my hand. As I did I closed my eyes to keep myself from looking. As I had my eyes closed I felt a sharp pain coming from my thumb, and as I opened my eyes I saw that both of our thumbs we put together.
Ok, said Chris, so after I say the oath then you say repeat it back to me ok? I nod my head, “with this oath and with my blood, I am your beast man. I promise to protect you, guide you, and take care of you as long as I have breathe in my body.” Now it’s your turn, said Chris, I took a deep breathe and began to say the oath. “ With this oath and with my blood, I am your…….. human. I promise to protect you, guide you, and take care of you as long as I have breathe in my body. With you together, now and forever, so says it be, finished Chris. With you together, now and forever, so says it be, I repeated. There we go we’re now each other forever, said Chris.
I looked down at my pricked thumb and said, that’s it, that’s all it required for use to be together? Basically yeah, said Chris with a big smile on his face, I got up from my side of the cave, walked over to Chris and I wrapped my arms around his big mane and squeeze as hard as I could. He did the same and engulfed me in his big muscular arms, I love you Chris, I love you too Ricky.
