Tiger Samurai - FCN Flyer art
A piece of artwork I did for the flyer for Furry Connection North 2011, who have very kindly invited me as one of their Guests of Honor for next year ^.^. I'm very excited and honored, and I'm really looking forward to it! I hope to see many of you all there, too =D
The convention takes place April 8-10 in Novi, Michigan - and the theme for the con is "Ages of Japan" You can find all the info at: http://www.furryconnectionnorth.com/
The artwork was done with micron pen and acrylic paints on 8"x10" illustration board.

What a fantastic image! I am very impressed as it's evident you worked very hard on this image, and spent just as much time on the background, as you spent on the figure. The reflections on the water, and the delicate details in the sky have given me ideas of color pencil techniques that I'd like to try out myself. I also like the tiger figure, even though he looks a little cross eyed, but that reminds me of the many Japanese wood cuts I've seen where the "Hero" looked a little "Odd" and unfocused. This one's definately a treasure.
Thank you =D! This was definitely right up my alley as far as subject matter and theme goes - so I really enjoyed it.
I'm planning on doing a piece in the same style/vein as the japanese wood-cut prints - I've been thinking about that for a while so we'll see how that turns out. Havent thought of a subject or composition yet, just the concept...

Haha, you really did your homework before doing this picture and thats fantastic! It all says from the amount of details! From the Damiyo outfit to the 5 front pleats on the Hakama, Tomoe symbol. A very nicely drawn katana there with Mokko Kogai tsuba. You pretty much nailed it with this one! And I know cause I'm into Japanese culture and practice Japanese swordsmanship. XD
Heheh, just a small hint though (no biggie) , the end of the saya (scabbard) of the wakizashi should be a little more rounded rather than tip-shaped.

I could go through and tell you all of the things I find splendid about this picture... but that would make me fall into a TL:DR rant.. I'll try to summon up everything in a few bullet notes:
:OMG THE WATER
:OMG THE SKY
:OMG THE TIGER
:OMG THE SAMURAI
...
It is now I realize that rhymed, somewhat. Anyway~ *presses favorite+ 39859874 times. Realizes it only adds once to your list. Sadface*
