Scar was more prone to training his daughter in combat rather than in hunting. Though many of the lionesses senior to the pride were distrustful of Zira seeing how close she was with her father, they did teach her to hunt, with rather fair success. She had a wonderful mind for planning ahead, and thanks to her smaller size in her younger years, was lithe enough to dart in after smaller targets.
Zira felt the need to prove herself to her pride, knowing the distaste that many held for her. As she grew, she proved adept at managing the pride outside of the hyenas.
The further into Scar's reign, the drought took over more of the Pridelands, and food grew more and more scarce. A runty springbok is a surprise feast, and any mistrust is forgotten... temporarily.
