It is impossible for any living creature to maintain a high state of alertness forever. Sooner or later, one must find a safe place to sleep, and for the Ha'aow this was no different. Unlike the aalukri who slept as a heaping pile of furry bodies in a central nest, Ha'aow tended to be more solitary and carved out individual nooks for themselves within the same territory. That way, if one of them were attacked in the night the would-be predator would not be able to run rampant amongst them and decimate the entire tribe. But each of them had their preferences. Some would curl in a nook where the branch met the trunk. Some created hanging nests out of vines and sticks. Still others preferred to sleep in one of the many hollows in the trunks of the trees. Ka'ahkai was one of those...but tended to make her nest in hollowed branches, still-living and strong wood that had yet been broken and eaten away by insects or strong winds. She enjoyed the multiple escape routes and open sections to the sky that allowed the sun to shine through and warm her fur...and the occassional small fluttering visitor.
I commissioned
sovaom to depict our fierce and beautiful Ka'ahkai in a much more relaxed state than we've seen her previously. Everyone has to sleep sometime, and our little Ha'aow has found herself a very secure hideaway.
Ka'ahkai, All-Hollow, and the Ha'aow are mine. Please do not redistribute this artwork, and check out SovaOm's high-quality upload with additional flower details here.
