*The newfound traveling party now has touched down on mimiga island. Better formal name, Lotus Island, just as the sign says posted. The group is taken by the sights of this new, floating region. Past the long, flat concrete flat, were grassy prairies. The scent of flowers growing in the distance, a few sneezing from the intake of pollen. Golden statues erected from raised slabs lined their walkway, detailed to exact depictions of royalty.*
*Everyone had their eyes on the main structure, the castle that simply was referred to as The Capital. No need for unique names when your civilization has been isolated for over 3 centuries. A virtual blip on global geography. Sounds of luggage being hauled through the halls, pushing past the great double door. Echoing footsteps, the occasional silence broken by greeting the other mimigas and casual conversation.*
==================================================
Carl: "If this place allowed permanent residence I'd love to live here!"
Klein: "Carl, we haven't been on this island for 10 minutes and you're already wanting to root."
Carl: "Hey, beats living on the surface having to fight all their wars for the past decades. Nobody to bother us up here."
Moromin: "I cannot believe it. They accepted our applications. So much to study... archeology, zoology, anthropology, pharmacology-"
Date: "Hey slow down, that's *my* background. If you end up performing all the fieldwork, you will be left with no work to do. We will have all the time we need... I'm certain Itoh was being paranoid. I cannot believe he did not want to come. Tch."
Sue: "Doubt they have any technology or internet up here, eugh. It is obvious why he did not come. It's the Stone Age up here."
*Background chatter of the adventurers about what bounties they could claim. Hoping there may be untouched treasures and dungeons, one of a kind up these altitudes. The journalist, however, was hardly talking. He came to the island without a partner, not that it fazed him. Tightening his blue jacket and keeping his eyes forward. Head down. A tourist prods the journalist for his input.*
Tourist: "I never got your name since the other airport, what's yours?"
Johnny: "Um, they call me Johnny. I document events for a living. It's a boring job but it pays enough."
==================================================
*A mimiga dressed in a yellow cloak, cloth draped to the ground. Welcoming the entire party. He guides them to a place to throw their belongings, their rooms, and immediately shows them to their lower levels. The main attraction of the castle. Huge paintings lined the walls, depicting the surface world in eras of the Middle Ages. Alongside their own of their people.*
*A scientist's eyes were scanning the room, focusing on the other statues. Witnessing the iconic, monster imposing rabbit carving. Lining like a gargoyle. He points to it, about to comment, but has his question answered.*
Guide: "Don't worry about those, you won't see many. The tour will always be safe, long as you *do not stray* from the group. This island has its own brand of dangerous critters, death traps, and pitfalls. Now, please take your attention to our first important stop, the hall of kings. This is where all natives and travelers must move down to enter and exit the island. The Capital is the only entry to and from the island surface."
Guide: "These royal statues here show the many rulers of our island. As you can see, it stretches for several generations. Human rulers here and there stopped in the late 1600th century. And THAT statue right at the end is our current and lovely ruler, King Midas!"
*A large, brawny figure. Their faces had 2 giant almond shaped eyes, a jagged cat smile, and wore a unique robe with a flower symbol upon it. The gold statue's eyes stare intently through all that pass. His size trumped that of people 2 times over.*
===================================================
*Our group now had entered the royal mess hall. A composition of 3 long tables. The middle one at the back, having a giant detailed chair, clearly meant for the king. Everyone would be shown their seats as to prepare for lunch. Menus passed out, everything done in traditional style. The majority is a vegetarian option, another alternative, fish. Everyone ordered, and now awaiting their next tour.*
*Shortly not too long after, a few mimigas joined the hall. Sitting on elevated chairs so they can reach the tables. Date smirked, finding it funny a race of small beings designed a mess hall meant for taller people. Johnny writing something in his notebook again, getting looked at by Date.*
*Their neutral glances at each other get interrupted when a grand figure enters the hall. White/golden fur combined, flowing across his long-eared head to legs. It was Midas, eyes shut in a wide, catlike fashion. His crown fitting his huge, almost box-shaped head. The crown itself, a golden red, appeared to be adjustable. 4 main metallic pieces connected, four-dimensional puzzle style. An ominous eye gem was planned at the front.*
*The king gave his curtsey bow to the crowd.*
King Midas: "More foreigners, finally. It gets lonely in the skies, with no way of contacting the surface. Let us introduce ourselves while the chefs prepare. I am Midas, ruler of this island for a few decades now. A treat to have people of an outside perspective. I would like to know of your opinions of the island during your weeks here... Well, since this is the very first, I'm certain there isn't much for you all to say."
Moromin: "Pardon me, heh, though I'd like to get to immediately studying your lovely island. That way I would have positive feedback~"
Sue: *Quiet scoff* "No need to be patronizing."
King Midas: "You all can expect a plethora of sights to observe. You see, we don't really tend to the surface that much. Most of our world occurs inside the giant cave systems of Lotus Island. As exciting as this place is, there are dangers lurking in the dark. Which is why you had best stay in the castle. We also have... brethren. Some of the larger mimigas don't take kindly to company."
*Waving his hand with reassurance.*
"We'll protect you from any dangers. Ravils shouldn't bother you, for now."
Date: "Sorry for asking, but aren't you a ravil? You have an imposing appearance that trumps these little guys."
King Midas: "Good question! I am a ravil by technicality, but I am fully lucid. Varying levels of sapience with ravils of this island. The more savage, and dumb ones are kept in the deeper depths for a reason-. I normally try keeping them away from foreigners regardless. Most of mine are too busy defending the capital. In the meantime, enjoy your stay."
==================================================
*The lunch was now being served. Humans being served their dishes by friendly mimigas, assisted alongside drolls. The strange, yellow-brown humanoids dressed in Gi, keeping their plane-faced stares as usual. Doing most of the heavy lifting, they moved everything from serving tables to chairs with ease. Eventually one of the curious adventurers asked one of the drolls a question. Eyes fixed on the bulky sticks in their back holsters.*
Adventurer: "I see you carry a tonfa. Your kind performs martial arts I hear. Is there a place where someone like me can spar with your kind?"
Droll: "... Hm, actually yes, but not here. That is deeper in the island. Guess it wouldn't hurt, would beat practicing against ravils."
*A few of the travels have a taking to the mimiga. Showing the humans hospitality, handing them trinkets, sharing stories, a few even giving those messages. Softening them up to get used to the island life. Everyone looked to be having a great time except the journalist and Sue. The journalist was most cautious, not letting himself fall too deep into this high-life.*
Johnny: "I don't feel so well, may I head to my room for now?"
*The journalist is escorted back to his room. Here he can be alone for now. Unpacking, and giving his room a quick search. He checked between the bed sheets, the pillows, the corners of furniture to find anything out of the ordinary. Everything looked clean. Now walking towards the walls, he started knocking against the rock. Checking for any hidden compartment... nothing.*
Johnny: "The other rooms..."
*Johnny was taking a mild risk. Moving his investigations to the other cabins. Cautiously looking outside his door, he sneaks towards some of the unoccupied rooms. Preferably unused rooms. Fiddling the doorknobs, he gets to an unlocked one. Performing the same search, he has done before, he takes interest in the bed. Everything looked clean... pulled back the bed sheet, and the sheet protector. The core cushion frame had something red dried. A drop that was faded, near where the head would be. Sneaking a picture of it, he quickly leaves the area and pretends to lounge back to his room.*
==================================================
*The medical scientist Date was starting to get bored, beginning to stare into space. Someone breaks his focus, a tap on his knee. A mimiga with a round face, royal blue cloth drapes, quiet demeanor, he wasn't smiling. He pushed a wristwatch into his lap. Date tilts his head, trying to refuse the "gift." Yet the mimiga insists. Pushing it in a serious manner onto him.*
Date: "Fine. Thanks, I guess."
*He looks over the watch, back at the mimiga. No response from the giver, now backing away. Date checked out the other gifts his colleagues got and noticed a difference. This watch was a brand-name silver watch. The other gifts were significantly more in-line with ancient handiwork. The doctor quickly puts the watch in his pocket, suddenly feeling an unexplained chill.*
Date: "What, this? This watch is nothing... Itoh might be a paranoid conspiracy theorist."
*The lunch was over, and it was time to continue the tour. They finally were able to see the interior. Thick flora of the Grasslands. An ever-expansive vast Sand Zone. The giant trees of Plantation. And finally, environments not expected to be found on the island. One scientist, taking a sight to the Snowy Zone.*
Moromin: "A region with microclimates. So, strange. While I consider myself a person of science, is this really... ehem... what is the forbidden 'M' word?"
King Midas: "Magic? Yes, no shame in admitting there are concepts that cannot be studied conventionally. The Snow Zone helps keep certain foods cold, as well as where we get our ice."
King Midas: "Well that's all for now. Do as you may, but please, follow the rules and guides of your fellow mimiga."

*People finally were getting a taste of what island life was like. Island may not have been the right word, more appropriately, cave life.*
*Within a week of their stay, the foreigners began making their own routines. The scientists are getting their equipment to begin surveying the landscape. Retired vacation men picking a region to go hiking. Adventuring parties heading into more daring depths, hoping to fight monsters and claim more treasure. All that remained to be the odd one out, the Johnny, who was not a fan of being followed around by a mimiga.*
Johnny: "... Soooo, wondering, who was the last human group to visit the island? Do any of the foreigners take residence here."
Chaperone: "Last year... Also, I am not sure I can answer that question. Most come here for tourist attractions."
Johnny: "... Mnngh. Is it too much to ask if I can explore the island by myself?"
Chaperone: "Sorry, I can't. King Midas' rule. I suggest forgetting about that, the island is a dangerous place for the inexperienced."
*The man was taken aback by the quick reply he got from his "guide." He sounded almost annoyed by the nature of the journalist's questions. Seeing that he wasn't going to be pushing out any valuable information from him, he chose to end his investigation temporarily. Resuming when he was truly alone again.*
==================================================
*The adventure crew concluded a week in a half worth of exploration. Going further than any of the foreign crew. Having hunted quite a few tough creatures, recently slain a giant crocodile. Already claiming their share of leather. Their guide mimiga, cleaned his blade. Eyes held partially closed as he was deep in thought. His yellow fur from ears to white underbelly. His gambeson outfit had pockets lined to his waist. Pinching the pocket open, looking down inside and seeing the familiar red glow. The scent of a spice.*
*Smelling the flower, despite never removing it from said pocket. He looked back towards the party he was with, the humans. They were strong for sure, a rare group of humans being hard to come by. The mimiga, Jaan almost felt sorry for his new friends.*
Jaan: "Can I really do it? If I pull this off, I'd officially graduate. Being able to join the squads of the Captial, getting everything my family wanted. Earning the respect of the ravils. And... join my relatives."
==================================================
*He quickly closed the pocket, giving his face two slaps via both hands. Psyching himself up. Head thinking back to what his potential future superior had told him.*
???: *"You do not become one of us just by becoming a ravil, Jaan. Prove to us you have the mind and heart for it. It will not matter how strong a ravil you become if you lack MY qualifications. I got this far despite my lack of ravil-fication. Respect and fear are mutual."*
*The short warrior in his memory was Jaan's size, only difference being the red snake eyes. His name, King echoed in his head. A mere glance at a ravil 3 times his size made the juggernaut look-away nervously. The superior giving recruits no slack.*
King: *"I have had to carry out orders I'd rather not. Regrets. But the fate of Lotus Island comes first. I have had to kill my best friend, a traitor, to ensure this island's future... Prove your loyalty, eliminate your comrades. It should not be as hard; they are only human. Long as you are not a softie like your neighbors' claim."*
*Jaan's memory ends, just as he feels the touch of his human comrades. The subtle frown he carried was replaced by a friendly smile. Having picked up most of his gear and ready to go, they would return to the capital. Enjoying the moment, but he knew it had to end. His goals would cross with his desires.*
