Evolution of my presets side by side.
The OLD Presets were direct hand made copies of presets already on the web, the NEW is my entirely custom version of those presets after studying tube TVs, and a reworking in how those presets are placed together. It involves a lot more steps and layers outside the presets as well. It takes extra time, but it looks worth it, and it's not too hard to do overall.
While the Old is closer to what I experienced growing up on the broken front projector, the one I like the most, but I still like "clarity." So I'm mixing it with more clearer 80s tube back projectors I experienced. The TV's I'm referencing from my memory were in the same friend's house. (they had a TV in every room, and each one was different so I have a variety to pool from). I'm still working on the look overall, but like where it's come since customizing the presets myself.
I still prefer the glitches, as I never experienced a TV (or radio) without them growing up, it's just apart of the experience of TVs from the 50s to about 1997. But I'm experimenting on not having them. They will stick around, but probably only under certain circumstances or if I really feel it should have it. I've been told in multiple places they are distracting, so I'm still figuring out how to make both camps happy, but will at least give "clear" versions of things owed, like commissions going forward.
EDIT: I wanted to include. That when I give you the original PSD file, you will be getting the old presets in a folder. But the new presets will be flatted together in one image.
I do this so that you can build your own TV experience using what is already out on the web and evolve from there. Remember that the way I make my art is extremely specific to the way I personally experienced TVs, you weren't there, so it's not your memory to copy as your own. I will be making quite a few free CSP ASSETS, that will include the old presets as well. I hope this doesn't upset anyone, it just feels like you'd be opening my personal diary and publishing it's contents without my consent and behind my back which is a very icky feeling. As the presets evolve so will the preset packs I provide. One day it will all be free, but for now it's still too personal to me and you'll have to be content with that.
