A sketch of my soon-to-be new character!
Also toying with giving her a humanoid face instead.... hmmmm... :/
Buuuuuuuuut, I am yet to name her! D: Idea's are appreciated! ;)
She is based off a Queensland Fruitbat, with bright red hair, who LOVES mangos.
Her design is based off a fruitbat- Not a true fruitbat in any sense though.
The wings evolved as flaps of skin along their sides and which would be pumped with blood and be held up to make the creature appear larger and more frightening when threatened. Larger skin-flaps meant they where more able to scare off predators if their young was threatened, hence males with the most impressive and large 'wings' would be allowed to mate.
Eventually, the flaps became so large that they where primarilly used for flying. The flaps would need to be pierced with eyelets as children, and ribbon would be looped through these holes, and tied alond the arms and legs to make the flaps open like a fruitbat.
Name ideas:
Nectarine Fairchild- Nectarine after my faverite fruit as a kid, and a faverite among the fruitbats of my hometown. And Fairchild after David Fairchild, the man who first introduced nectarine's into English agriculture.
Ambi Podidae- [I] Taken from the scientific names "Disambiguation"(meaning "Fruitbat") and "Pteropodidae" (the scientific name for the family the fruitbat species belongs to)
Tarine- Cut from Nectarine.

The wings don't have a continuous seam attached to the body, and so it has some gaps in parts. Ordinary clothing is cut, and ribbon or string is attached so that the ribbon can be pushed through these gaps in the seam of the wings and tied behind her back in a corset fashion.
I'm horrid at explaining these things, so I'll certainly be drawing a diagram of how it works in my spare time after I graduate. (four more days! omg!)
