There are many masks the reaper wears, as his scythe cuts across the land
For the wielder of the unyielding blade has no sympathy for man
By plague, by famine, by the brilliant fires of war
Death is there, he always is, in every single form
But by far the deadliest, most dangerous mask of all
Is the one that sends you plodding, sprinting to meet his call
For no army, no weapon, no single threat can compare
To the very thing that sends you waltzing straight into his care
Curiosity is a curious thing, that much we can say for sure
To explore the things we do not know is a most powerful allure
But be wary of the things you find, may caution guide your pen
For what you find awaiting you can never be hidden again
Take caution, my child, as you travel across the serpent
Pay close mind to what you find and where our kind have crept
But when you tire of the same worn paths, and wish to further deviate
My only wish, dear daughter, is this: to remember your mother's fate
