This is the official polish anthem since 1927, but was originally written much earlier on the threshold to the 19th century by the polish poet Józef Wybicki in Italy. The original title was "Pieśń Legionów Polskich we Włoszech" ("Song of Polish Legions in Italy").
Slovakia adopted the melody of the song with adapted lyrics and made it their own anthem ("Hej, Slováci !"). It was also the national hymn of - the former united - Yugoslavia ("Hej Sloveni" including some variations in the lyrics for the different states)
