4 congruent pairs of variation triangles, 2 variations (linear and julia), 9 hours of combined render times (rendered it twice), and what do I get? A pretty darn cool fractal at a regular size with visible repeating iterations.
I've been having trouble making fractals from scratch that have more than one color. I don't like working with lots of different variations, because it gives me more accurate control over the image, and streamlines the rendering process, but as a consequence, the color is always limited to various shades of one color. It's somewhat irritating, but I'm getting used to having that restriction, and I'm starting to be able to work it to my advantage and develop my own "style" if you will.
*edit* Re-rendered the file at a more regular size (1024x768) and at 15k quality
