Given that Charles and Charlotte are pirates they might well have acquired any number of strange magical artefacts amongst whatever treasures they looted. Maybe they tried out one of those on Lu to see what it could do and now they're just having a little fun after discovering Lu in modular form still has full sensation in all detached body parts.
