When I was your age -- back in prehistoric times -- I felt the same way.

I still feel the same way; yet I have known people who have managed to make good lives for themselves: lives of work and creativity, lives of purpose, lives of love. Their examples keep me going; and if I could take one lesson from them, one guiding principle, it would be: never give up.

Never give up, because you never know what good things might come into being when you least expect them. You never know where pathways in life might take you; some of these destinations are wonderful, completely unexpected, and worth all the effort spent in hope, in practice, and in preparation.
