Samiake invites Shayde down to the beach for a refreshing swim.
'It's not too cold, is it?' the lab asks.
'Course not,' reassures the otter
Obviously, he was lying. Well, otter's DO have that thick, insulating pelt, after all.
As a guy, I can tell you this is the worst part of submerging oneself in cold water...things shrink

Adorable pic, though my dog groomer side instantly goes into the double coat lab's have, and that they were bred for water retreveing in Labrador, Canada. Poor pooch. Had I been there wif my equipment I could have dried you out really quick with some nice warm air., get ya fluffy, and comb out the dead fur so your pelt insulates better... then probably dump it all on Sam there for being a goober. ^_^
Indeed. Not as nice as otter or beaver pelt, but it does offer some protection. I would assume that Australian ocean water isn't as cold as it could be, like southern Argentina or farther north on the Atlantic seaboard than I am. *shrug and gives you a nice warm fluffy towel and offers to help dry you off*
