In honor of, any minute today, the final episode of "Animorphing Time" (covering book 54 and the end of the series) dropping, I found and scanned a comic that's been just sitting around for two years.
This one was... oh, man. That level of self-loathing was just painful to draw.
(The blue thing with seven fingers and no mouth is his original body.)
I suppose I should explain the smiley face button.
In a pitch that didn't go anywhere, I threw out the idea in the script that he, in the debris of a crash of a UFO full of 1970s junk, found a Smiley Face button and turned it upside down to mean the Andalite glyph symbol for "Danger" like a little emo kid who's now in danger of eating his friends if he loses self-control for half a second. Loren, as she leaves, turns the pin right side up and tells him it's a smile, because humans smile with their mouths as well as their eyes. And ever since then, I've distinguished him from all the other Taxxons with a smiley face pin. It's... a thing I just draw, I guess.
One of the other things in that UFO was a yellow Ford Mustang with "Honky Tonk Women" queued up in the eight-track.

I forget where I read that Applegate's favorite music is Bach and the Rolling Stones, I just know she adds them whenever possible (Everworld, I think one of the only CDs they have is the St. John Passion).
Fun coincidences, according to wikipedia and the stuff I vaguely picked up from interviews while trying to mimic her writing voice: Katherine Applegate and my dad were both third children born in exurban Southeast Michigan four years apart, majored in English at UofM under the same teachers, moved to Chicago afterward, became bestselling 1990s comedic series authors, had a trans daughter (me) the year after that and another daughter to follow. And their favorite band is the Rolling Stones. Someday I'm gonna meet their daughter at some sort of meetup and say "Hey, I'm not a stalker, but trust me, this is hilarious."
