It would be an easy assumption to look at this plane and think, "That's just another knock-off of the F-14 Tomcat!".
Wrong!
This is a Variable-Geometry-Winged approach to a modern "Hybrid Striker" (as I call them), a warplane that combines the Air Superiority role (i.e., F-15 Eagle, Su-27 Flanker) with the Strike role (i.e., F-111 Raven, Su-24 Fencer) to form a completely new design (i.e., F-15E Strike Eagle, Su-30 Strike Flanker) that embodies all thier respective functions without sacrificing either of thier unique strengths --- in short; a totally non-copmromise, all-purpose warplane.
There's no reasno that this design cannot be modified into a pure Air Superirity Fighter, like the F-14, but since it already has that capability, why change it?
Note: This is the very first aircraft I designed using my current "tracing" method

Three other reasons are the weight, comlpexity, and price. For example, the F-15 Eagle costs approximately US$40 millon; while it's older U.S. Navy counterpart, the F-14 Tomcat, costs US$75 million --- and thoes were the figures from back in the 70's!
Also, while the size and maximum thrust of the F-14 and F-15 are very similar, the F-14 is much heavier.
