Beatrice sat patiently, her eyes watching the fireflies dance like falling stars around her, like that once before. A slow rustle of leaves carried a wind which smelled faintly like the juniper that has pervaded the outskirts of possum springs for some time. She wanted to be alone for a while, to relive some good memories, to fill herself with some hope... It really is a shame, she'd spent a large portion of her life wishing she could leave it all behind, and when she finally did, she just wanted to come back again.
This stupid old house has been abandoned for about a year, the wood was splintered, the grass was overgrown and the candle lamps were all burnt down to just wax. She'd fixed a furnace for the old crone that lived here a couple times, 'it was almost a literal hell down in that basement, hehe, and once, Mae decided to break it', she thought with a chuckle. She looked to the stars above and remembered all the times Angus tried to convince her to draw out patterns in the sky or how many times Gregg tried to get her to go to band practice as a stand-in before she said yes. A lot of good times...
"Don't you look comfy" A familiar voice rung out in the distance. She'd asked Raven to wait in the car for her, letting out a sigh, she looked to him. "You okay?" He asked still approaching.
"Yeah, no problems at all." She replied. He wore a smile on his face riddled with concern, and as he stopped right in front of her he asked,
"You sure? You've been out here for two hours,"
"...Two hours? Heh, I'm sorry, I didn't..." She tried.
"No, no, it's okay, you did look like you were having fun, I was just a bit worried"
"I didn't notice it, I was just having a bit of a... lapse in memory" Raven chuckled a bit " What?"
"Nothing, it's just, hehe, you're already a beautiful dream so..."
"Oh shut up Rave" She said letting out a subtle laugh and shaking her head.
"Under the watchful eyes above, are the stories of the best of us shown..."
"Okay, okay, you win, we can go Rave."
"Actually I was going to ask..." He started holding his hand gently out, "Shall we at least dance with the fireflies on the porch? Make a show of it?" His smile widened.
"Dance, now?"
"Since we're going to be here I thought at least we could actually dance, the ballroom was a bit of a flop tonight." He said recalling the only reason Bea was wearing a dress from the back of her wardrobe, The Ballroom was about the only place Raven could find and book for the evening, a true curse of pay weekend birthday celebrations. It didn't help that someone else had the same idea and pretty much took over the club.
"Don't remind me" Bea's smile had faded from that statement as she turned away.
"So let's dance, right here and now, the crickets as our music, the fireflies as our strobes, and then, I'll drive you home, and you can rest easy that I will be making breakfast in the morning" she raised her hand to meet his, her expression unchanged.
"One condition.."
"Name it" She slowly turned to face him her playful smile returned,
"I know damn well if you cook we won't have a kitchen left, so you'll be supervised." She finished, gripping his hand gently. His smile grew as as he laughed and helped her up.
"It's a deal, my Softy Scales."
