that's why you should do that so called 5 Seconds test.
Hold your hand slightly above the pavement/asphalt - if it feels warmer than body temperature, better go carry your dog into the shadowy grass.
Btw. not just hot pavement can be fatal for the paws, in general heatwaves can lead to heat shocks for dogs, they always should drink enough water therefore.
