The hills are alive with the sound of…one-arm bandits. :D
Stepping outside of the BLFC hotel in Reno, Nevada, one is met with quite dramatic surroundings. The city is surrounded on pretty much all sides by mountains that form a small part of the Great Basin, which ends a few miles to the west at Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada mountain range that defines much of inland California. All of the mountains around Reno are well over 5,000ft tall, putting the valley walls of South Wales to shame in terms of height (but ours are greener, nyeh nyeh nyeh!). The mountains you see here are all about 6,000ft, with the tallest in the background – Clark Mountain – being around 7,500ft high. They lie to the east of the city, thus catching the light of the setting sun on their slopes, and have been shaped by the Truckee River, which begins its life in Lake Tahoe and runs right through the middle of Reno, before snaking its way through Nevada and ending up in Pyramid Lake.
Hope you enjoy!
