When you think about it, it kinda also makes sense anatomically. Abdominal muscles always stay closer to belly's surface then internal organs, such as stomach and intestines, do. Therefore, even when belly is stretched, advanced abdominal muscles should stay noticeable, even though they will have to stretch, thin out a bit to allow the stomach to expand.
To put it shortly: I support the wish for more bloated, yet toned guts in art.
