Locusts are a large concern for farmers trying to preserve their crops. One farmer was unfortunate enough to lose a field to the bug, however what was found was quite different to what’s normally left in the wake of a swarm.
Rather than a field of damaged plants, the entire plot of land was completely cleaned out, as if it hadn’t even ben sown. The farmer discovered something round left in the field, and upon taking a closer look, realized what it was. A single locust ate the whole crop, engorged and resting after its bounty.
In light of this discovery, the farmer reached out to local laboratory workers to examine this clearly voracious specimen. Technicians came and relocated the bug back to their lab, and some time before arriving, the locust resumed normal size after digesting all the farmer’s crops.
The laboratory workers began a series of tests with their specimen, starting with what they knew – locusts feed upon plants. And feeding upon plants is exactly what this locust did; fresh produce at every stage of growth, the locust would eat it all in its entirety, filling its belly to impressive sizes every time.
During one test where the locust was near small objects found in a laboratory, the scientists where surprised to see the bug swallowing those items – tubes, flasks, jars, and other handheld items, the locust would eat as capably as it ate crops, and given time, digest it all just as well.
With this realization, the technicians try an ambitious controlled test, placing the locust in a room with larger items, including furniture, small appliances, and various moveable devices. Like all tests before, the locust ate everything around it, gathering it all inside it and promptly metabolizing its meal.
Concluding these experiments, the locust is taken from the laboratory and placed near a company van. The scientists were placing bets, impressed by the insects performance so far, but they thought this was too much. However, the locust had no such doubts. The insect voraciously jumps at the van, his body quickly enveloping the back, the roof and continuing onto the cab. Despite being far bigger than anything this locust has encountered before, he had no issue swallowing the hood and finishing his meal with a bunch of wet sounds, signifying the vehicle has fully entered the stomach. The van started sizzling, almost boiling like a pot of water, wet and gurgly sounds echoing through the garage. Locust carelessly rubbed and cleaned his legs as the vehicle behind him started brekaing down. The bodywork, weakened by the corrosive stoamch juices, started to give out to the pressure of the stomach walls, slowly buckling and breaking, with crashing sounds the storage space started to implode on itself. The car alarm woke up, loudly blaring emergency, but the sound became more and more muffled until the acid short circuited the wires, distorting the alarm until it eventually died out. The windows and headlights cracked and broke, the rubber of the tires slowly melted away, the car started to rapidly shrink. The bodywork almost compeltely melted away, exposing the frame and the engine. The locust let out a huge belch, after which the stomach seemed to have started working even faster. The scientists stood there with mouth agape, seeing as the block of aluminium and steel was vanishing before their eyes, the belly of the locust rapidly shrinking, now the size of a closet, an oven, as small as a watermelon, the stomach gaining back it's colour from not being stretched anymore, until it all disappeared, leaving only a locust with a very plump soft abdomen. The beast relased one final belch, which broke the onlookers out of their stupor, reminding them that they have not thought this plan this far. The bug looked around, before quickly jumping across the parking lot, disappearing into the tall grass in a search for somethign to wash down all these meals...
