I've said this before, and I'll say it again: the world needs more 1920s cats.
As for names for the unnamed character...yeah, pretty much the above suggestions sound good. Virdie's another good obscure old-timey name, though it apparently only remained popular as a first name up to the late 20's because once my great-grandma hit about 17 she switched her middle name with her first and went by Alma until the day she died. pointless fact is pointless, but oh well.
