This poem is a prelude/teaser for my story Lavender Stained Red.
Without you, there’s much to be desired.
Every day, I shamble down to the river
And watch the shimmering water longing to be admired.
Although, it’s never quite the same without your radiant violet.
I sway my hand idly in the current,
And reminisce on what one was.
You once stole my heart like a greedy merchant;
Yet I sit here lonely by the water, contemplating my cause.
We once humoured ourselves to being alone together,
We knew that no force could draw us apart.
Now you roam the afterlife without tether,
And I’m happy I was right.
Every afternoon, this river finds its way to me. It constantly invades my thoughts,
Much like your disembodied company.
Even though I know you’re here,
Oh how lonely I feel.
