It had been three years since the last attack. Everyone thought that they were safe. Unfortunately, there was a flying beast approaching the kingdom. One ant was supposed to sort it out, but due to his birth defect, everyone thought he was funny looking. His name was Elon, the king of the arthropods. He still remembered the day the queen, Ariel, chose him to rule by her side. That same day, the queen gave a speech about the beasts that threatened their kingdom.”Your majesty! Your majesty, get your head out of the clouds! Reflecting on old memories again?””Yes, Zero?” Zero was Elon’s best friend. They were a vibrant green mantis with dark eyes and curly antennae. “I’ve spotted the shadow of a flying beast, and when I looked up, I saw it! Red feathers, a single red horn on it’s head, and a black scale!” They said in a panic.”That’s a northern red flying beast, Zero. It’s not a horn, it’s a crest. I learned this from Ariel.” The northern red flying beasts were often referred to as cardinals by larger creatures. “I’ve got good news, and bad news.” Elon continued. “The good news, Ariel taught me all about these things. The bad news, they’re the most dangerous, unpredictable flying beasts in the world.””I just don’t get why every year, a stupid beast has to come and trash our kingdom.” Zero complained. “I’m more worried about our people than the land.” Elon said.”Elon!” The queen burst in, eyes as wide as planets. “Elon, where’s Alexia!? We can’t leave her alone with that creepy shadow!” Alexia was their daughter, and the next queen of an arthropod kingdom. “Calm down, she’s in her room.” He told her. “And Zero, are they doing alright?” Ariel asked.”No, why wouldn’t they be alright?” Elon asked. “I’ve noticed they’ve been acting a little.. different.” She told him. “I.. I just, I formed such a bond with Alexia that I now think of her as my sister. It will hurt when she leaves to rule a new kingdom.” Zero said, looking sad.”We understand, Zero.” Elon said, his hand on their shoulder. Suddenly, screaming could be heard outside the palace. “Oh no.. oh NO!” He cried.They rushed out of the palace to see the northern red flying beast stomping through the village, destroying houses and eating arthropods along the way. Zero saw Miko being chased and ran to help him.Miko was Zero’s father, and they always felt connected to him. He could run surprisingly fast, especially for his age, so the chase was fair.”Dad! Are you okay!?” They questioned him. “Don’t worry, Zee. I’m fine. I haven’t seen you in so lo-“As he was talking to Zero, the beast flew up into the air and dived at him, swooping down and snatching him.”DAD!!” Zero screamed. They couldn’t let their father die like this! “ZERO!!” He shouted.The beast shut it’s beak and stomped off. He was gone forever. Tears began to form in Zero’s eyes, and they ran off alone.Soldiers of various kinds were sent after the beast. Ants, beetles, wasps, moths, but none of them could even wound it. They were all picked up in it’s beak and thrown away to goodness-knows-where.It was hopeless. This would be the kingdom’s end. But then, the queen told everyone about the land beast that almost destroyed the entire kingdom, but they still managed to fend it off with enough effort, and help from other kingdoms.Alexia ran to her parents crying. She said that Zero had told her that they were running off to another kingdom. She didn’t want them to leave, nobody wanted them to leave.The kingdom was facing dark times. However, it wasn’t all bad. One of the soldiers said that they spotted a divine flying beast. Divine flying beasts were known as birds of prey by larger animals. Sometimes divine flying beasts would kill other flying beasts that were antagonizing the kingdom. They hoped that it would kill the northern red flying beast that was terrorizing the village.The king, queen and Alexia were filled with hope and relief. Maybe this would be the end of their problems with this feathered brute.It was just about to destroy a house when something jumped onto it’s back and quickly put a rein on it and wrapped a rope around it’s neck. It jumped around in terror before finally impaling itself on one of Miko’s polished crystals.When the dust cleared, everyone was shocked to see that the one who slayed the bird was none other than Zero.Elon hugged them tight. “You don’t need to leave. You can stay with us as long as you’d like.” He told them.Zero started to cry. “I’m sorry I left, I will never abandon you like that again. You will always be my friends, all of you. I was just sad because of what happened to my dad. It will never happen again..” They said, tears streaming down their face.”It’s okay, Zero, we understand.. and you’re back just in time to say goodbye to Alexia.” Ariel said to them.Many royal ants, known as alates, from other kingdoms, flew to the village, and landed in a line. They would tell Alexia their names, what kingdom they were from, and their morals, and Alexia would decide if they were the one for her.Finally, Alexia got to her alate. They were named Crimson, and they were friendly, and wanted peace in the world. Alexia would rule a new kingdom with him.”Honey, I hope you life a good life with Crimson, and if you ever need help, don’t be afraid to come to us.. I will miss you..” Ariel said.”My darling, even though you’re fully grown now, I will always think of you as my baby. I will miss you dearly..” Elon said to her.”Alexia, I always thought of you as a sister, and I will never forget you..” Zero told her.”Goodbye, I will never forget you all..” Alexia said, tearing up.It was finally time for them to leave, and Crimson made sure she got to say proper goodbyes to her family. She kept waving at them, and Crimson signaled that they were late, and to hurry, as much as it hurt him to make her leave. She flew off with him, and the family was deeply saddened, but also so very proud. Their daughter was going to rule a kingdom.———————————————-
