When the divide that pushed the ley-born across the Rahfar mountains first occurred, the Zar’Margulas Empire established several key locations throughout the west expanse of Ravillia to ensure their crusade against the indigenous people was as effective as possible. Once the terrible task was over, it was apparent that it would cost a lot of resources and effort to relocate all of the troops and supplies back to the growing capital. So the Emperor decreed that kingdoms be created throughout the continent's western expanse to make a home for his armies and people so they won't need to be relocated, and his reach could be as extensive as possible.
In the far north west of what is now called Muir'Beinn, was a kingdom of little importance connected to the empire. This kingdom who's name is lost, had a couple of outposts in rather strategic locations, the was on the border of a rival kingdom to the south, and the second was to the north on the coast. The former was destroyed many years later with the territorial claim by the dragon Rakant along with the kingdoms that surrounded his newfound home. The coastal outpost however, was left untouched... either by accident or on purpose and this outpost was named; "Wailingin" by it's people after it's connection to the empire was severed. Wailingin was a fort, small in size but located somewhere of importance; for across the ocean through the Eislay Islands resides the largest dwarven kingdom in the world, and prior to it's destruction, the third largest human kingdom 'Neiola'. Wailingin was primed to be a great location of importance for the Zar’Margulas Empire, it's proximity to the dwarves would be good trade, as well as the human kingdom before it was 'liberated'.
Of course things would change for the future of Wailingin after the arrival of the dragons, Wailingin would eventually be extended a welcoming claw to join Vahina and Rahfar as one of the settlements of Rakant and Takaani's territory. For awhile the fort remained just that, a fort on the edge of a nation with little power or influence, just enough sailors and guards to keep itself secure, and a looming threat of two dragons who could demolish Wailingin on a whim. Time went on and eventually, the fort would evolve into Port Wailingin.
Port Wailingin's resources of fish and the plentiful bounty of the sea were in high demand in the rest of the region. Trade strengthened as the dragon's presence established a surprising sense of peace and safety over the region. It was safe to travel the roads. Bandits were unheard of. The port town slowly grew in wealth and population, more houses began to be built within the walls of its fort. A marketplace formed for the fishermen to showcase their fresh catches and for dried fish rations to be snapped up by the wagons that came in from Vahina and Rahfar. In time, the green dragoness Takaani began to take a particular interest in Wailingin due to the amount of time she spent on the coastline indulging in her preference for shellfish. Often, the town would find the large green dragon landing on their docks and perusing the marketplace's wares. Every time she visited, she purchased something and was generous with her payments as well as relentlessly friendly to everyone who dared to interact with the great beast. Over time their fear dissolved into amusement and appreciation as she began to assist in more direct ways like healing sailors who had been injured at sea, or ferrying supplies over to a nearby island to assist in the construction of a lighthouse to make navigating the Eislay Archipelago safer. One day, she even showed up with a flag design and enough funds to cover the manufacturing costs for adding a flag to all their ships. A long period of growth and prosperity was had under her watchful eye.
But peace never lasts forever. While both of their dragon overlords were gone for a period of several months, having flown across Ravillia to finish business with Kiznerelk, a neighboring kingdom, Port Wailingin began to be attacked. Boats were ambushed, their crews abducted. Men were placed under spells and lured their shipmates to their death. Disappearances in the night. It became known that their attackers were demons. Demons that had been the cause of why the dragons would later go overseas, demons that had stolen boats and made their way across the sea to Muir'Beinn. The port fended off these attacks as best they could, but by the time the dragons returned the situation was dire. Immediately, the dragons turned their attention to exterminate the threat to their territory. It was not easy; the Eislay Archipelago and its many islands provided an infinite number of hiding places, but soon the den of scum was found. A circular island that had once been a meteor long ago that had impacted the sea, its insides filled with a dizzying amount of colored crystals that the demons had found focused their magicks. Like flushing out a nest of rats, Rakant set the entire place ablaze and ended the raiding of the port town.
Shaken and its small population rather diminished, Wailingin recovered from this disaster with the help of Takaani. Not just by healing those who had been injured and bewitched, but having brought a trade agreement from the human kingdom named Ves'Nola across the sea. This connected Port Wailingin to the rest of the realm and expanded trade outside of Muir'Beinn as well as established the small town as the only sea port into the region. Money poured in, and the town expanded with it. A tavern was established on the lighthouse island, and a shipyard was built to accommodate the new larger trading vessels that were being constructed. Hopeful business owners began to emigrate to the developing nation, establishing unique specialty shops and new cuisines.
Even now, it continues to grow...and the story continues.
This is Port Wailingin, one of the two original settlements of Muir'Beinn and a rather important one at that. A majority of trade is done by sea, Muir'Beinn's location made it difficult to trade with the other kingdoms to the east thanks to the Rahfar mountain range, but with a working sea-port, Muir'Beinn was fully connected to the rest of the world. The port has seen a lot of growth similar to Vahina, but staggered thanks to a couple of things; the first being that it was isolated for quite some time before being fully brought into the territory, and the second being that it was dealing with pirates and later demons that kept it from expanding or growing until those issues had been dealt with. The town looks to Takaani for protection and after a long fought battle; guidance, having respect won over by the hardy and stubborn sailors that live within Wailingin.
