pretty neato! if you want to blend a real life picture to work better with a sketch try adding a filter to the background work, itll lower the environmental detail making it look more like a sketch itself. and in the end you can combine the layers and add an overall cast shadow render from a singular direction to make the shadows in the piece seem more natural :D
also im a praportion freak and yours is fantastic! loving the scale of the body with the background too, your image makes it easy to imagine the space in which youre character exists. overally id graduate this from "sorta lame attempt" as you stated to a rather nice composition of character in real space.

well for about a year on FA i offered critic on peoples pieces from a fine arts point of view (*10 years working as a custom framer and muralist will do this to you.) but mostly i found i was misunderstood (not quite always from a failure of my communication skills) or the commentary would sorta echo into the void that is cyberspace.
also critic coming from myself who is struggling with a new style/media sounds sorta... pompous in my own ears.
soo i let it go and just enjoyed what i seen and tried to learn from others *which ultimately is what this is all about anyway.

yeah. i figure ill offer up my help...if they dont get it and think im just trying to insult their stuff then theyve kinda missed the point and are therefore deemed unworthy of my knowledge. but for those able to take a punch to make their work better its worth it. i mean i go to class and have 20+ people tell me everything wrong about my stuff and all it does is give ideas on how to improve
totally get that
i always invite constructive critique my ex had a lot of professors in fine arts that where less than constructive thou.. sometimes even the professionals don't get it.
please feel free when bored or otherwise interested to comment on any thing i have posted
even thou im fairly accomplished in canvas painting and murals. computer illustration and character drawing is such a diffrent skill set for me. and has been actually quite challenging,
this Account represents about 3 years of practice and study and occasional breakthrus.
