I've been playing a lot of Half-Life 2, as if you couldn't tell. This could be like an extended future to my story, where everything is technological and all the magic is gone. I imagine Evren has been busy for thousands of years so the threat of a powerful alien race slipped his mind, and managed to get their hands on our sweet planet. Like Dr Breen, this guy in the front surrendered and collaborated with them for power.
