...That got me thinking and I actually came up with a perfectly logical reason
Quetz's don't have hands to do it with nor would they do it themselves when they have servants to rely on, and Brand never had to do it because he can just rely on his own fire breath

Also there is practically no tinder in that fire, its stacked terribly and will just dissipate heat away from the wood and its not like good flint is always just laying around where you need it. Not to mention a fire breathing dragon and a royal princess probably wont recognize flint off hand.
