Care to go into excruciating detail on how you replicated the SA1 rendering style?

I assume you're talking about the coloring mostly? Well firstly, I separated each color to their own layer for the most part, I started with a solid color and then used a very large air brush for the softer darker bits. Then for the highlights and shadows, I have a layer for each and both are set to render as overlay and use opacity that's fine tuned based on what I think looks good. One important detail is that the style does not follow the standard rules of highlighting where it's pointed towards the light source and shadows are away from it. Highlighting seems to happen on both sides and shadows are only used under other body parts. I hope this sorta gives a general idea.

TL;DR: I just looked at the art style closely to replicate it.
