Marcel was born into a merchant family. At young age he exhibited sense of loyalty and duty by helping his father with the merchant’s duties and warding off thieves and muggers.

One year a war was knocking at the gates of their land and the town’s lord had to raise money and men for the war effort. In the war Marcel demonstrated his unrefined skills for battle he had developed in his early life and ironclad will. All these traits caught the eye of a certain noble knight, who saw the potential in the young man. The knight approached Marcel with an intriguing offer: to become his squire to refine the skills and mind, with a promise to eventually acquire the status of knight.

Accepting the offer, Marcel joined the nobleman’s company. The months and years marched on and Marcel’s skills grew to the point he was ready to earn his knighthood. However, dark times arrived and the House of Alcot was under a grave threat from the other noble families. Realizing the gravity of the situation, the nobleman trusted his niece, Elwyna, to Marcel’s care and bid them to flee before it would be too late.

Come next summer the flames of the conspiracy against the House of Alcot died off as had most of the family’s members. Now the masterless and homeless squire had only one thing in life to hold on to: taking care of young Elwyna. He taught her the way of the sword, survival skills and street smarts, among other things. Skills that will be the key for their survival in the unforgiving world.
