Aside from the challenge of tackling an equine animal, there was also nailing the late Conrad Veidt's appearance as the requisite evil wizard. Great actor, best known for playing the villain in Casablanca, but few people know he inspired a lot of other classic villains, including the Joker. (True!)

Donkey tfs are among my very favorite animal tfs, and this one was great. I think you drew this jackass quite well :)
Do you use colored pencils or pastels? In any case I'd be ecstatic if I was ever half as good as you with using the colors and textured shading to compliment the line work.

I typically use Prismacolor pens on my main characters, and use colored pencils to add texture and shading, and to do the backgrounds so the main character stands out a bit more.
And when the pens start to dry out I usually keep them - dried pens are also great for texture, especially fur texture.
