for some reason I was guessing the fusion would have HAD to occurred to barbara's body to directly counteract the corruption or whatever, but I suppose I was underestimating the adapter's ability.

Time loops are honestly a fascinating concept to write about. Tinkya is currently a bat girl with wings instead of hands, but her future self has humanoid hands and feet. She saw that her future self has hands when Future Tinkya handed over the creature to Auntie Meiga.
Now, we see from the book Tinkya is reading that she's learning how to transform her wings into hands. Thus, her future self (with hands) inspired her past self to get hands, thus leading to her future self having hands in the first place. A small, but endlessly repeating loop that created itself.
