Kumataro is the father of Akakabuto, the demon bear that once terrorized the Ohu Mountains during his youth. When he was a bear cub, his father was such a formidable force he even became a threat to the other bears in Ohu who didn’t want to join his army. As a result, he seeks the aid of a group of dogs called the Soldiers of Ohu, leading to an epic battle that resulted in his Akakabuto's defeat at the paws of the tiger-striped akita named Silver.

After Akakabuto's demise, Kumataro led his fellow bears to Animaltopia, where he encounters Tsuruka O'Hare, an eastern cottontail rabbit and a member of Team Star Rush, and it didn't take long for the two of them to fall in love instantly.
