You would think that I have a lifetime of experience exposing my work to people, for better or for worse, but for whatever reason I am still paralyzed at the notion of sharing my music with folks. I wouldn't think twice if it was a drawing, and I'm not really sure what the difference is. More confidence in one than the other I suppose.
In any case, there'll be no more of that. I'm beginning to take music more seriously now, and I can't do that if I just vault everything.
I wrote this last year when I was in a summery mood, out walking my dog and seeing all the assorted shirtless neighborhood gentlemen tending their yards. This song is not pegged for any particular use, just a song for the song's sake.
Lyrics follow
Look at you go, laying paint up and down that strip
Watch your shoes, what a shame babe, you caught a drip
I'mma watch from the shade while you making a mess
You just keep doing what you do best
Look at the sun beatin' down on your golden skin
Drop of sweat hit the ground, wanna dive right in
Try to stay sorta sane while you water the grass,
But there's still something I gotta ask
Now I don't see no ring on your finger,
So no one needs to know
I wanna thank you for your work today
Let me wash your shirt to appreciate
I'mma hook you up with some lemonade
I'll make you smile baby,
Hit you right between the eyes
You don't really need me to elaborate
You can work your body, you can work your brain
Some may say I play the devil's game
I don't deny, baby
I'm inviting you inside
Watch you go for a ride, baby crop that quick
Been a hot few nights, now it's grown too thick
Paralyzed by your thighs as you step on the gas,
Got me feeling like I'm gonna crash
I see you sizzling baby underneath that tan
Like a backyard God with your tool in hand
Everything's blossoming waiting here for your touch
I know I could never get it enough
You keep coming back to the garden
When you could just stay home
I wanna thank you for your work today
Let me wash your shirt to appreciate
I'mma hook you up with a lemonade
I'll make you smile baby
Hit you right between the eyes
You don't really need me to elaborate
You can work your body, you can work your brain
Some may say I play the devil's game
I don't deny, baby
I'm inviting you inside
One small miscalculation, and I can't get you off my mind
A sun-soaked destination between my arms if you were mine
I need a resolution, and there's just one that I can find
There is no substitution, please come inside
I wanna thank you for your work today
Let me wash your shirt to appreciate
I'mma hook you up with some lemonade
I'll make you smile baby
Hit you right between the eyes
You don't really need me to elaborate
You can work your body, you can work your brain
Some may say I play the devil's game
I don't deny, baby
I'm inviting you inside
I wanna thank you for your work today
Let me wash your back to appreciate
I'mma hose you down with some lemonade
I'll make you fly baby
Hit you right between the eyes
You don't really need me to elaborate
Lay your body down and let me demonstrate
Some may say I play the devil's game
I won the prize, baby
I'm inviting you inside
