Y'know, I think a lot of Americans identify with Everett. They get uncomfortable when other citizens don't like aspects of their country and feel like it's an indictment of them. They get all defensive and angry because they don't want to feel at fault for something they aren't responsible for.
The lions share of the blame for the problems of our country can and should be laid at the feet of the powerful in it, the people who are leading us down this terrible spiral.

Found a song a few weeks ago that ties in pretty well with the situation the world faces today...

It's from the 80's, oddly enough. Ties in with literally everything from price gouging, wage-cutting, homophobia, erosion of civil rights.

I've honestly felt this way for several years. I just can't celebrate the 4th with everything that's going on. I am not proud to be an American, and I am not free. I'm hopeful that people will continue to protest, and we'll eventually get politicians actually willing to fight with the people instead of just creating more problems. Someday, things will get better. Someday, laws won't be based on religious beliefs (that's unconstitutional!) and there will be human rights for all.
