You spend a good part of the year growing them, go thru the process of the skin/velvet covering falling off in late summer and then having them thru the Autumn only to have them fall off during Winter. I've seen a few really unique antlers on Elk in my area. One would only grow one antler - kinda bent but with no tines - made him look like a very odd unicorn.
